Opening Day!

Well Boston fans, its finally here. Opening day and the weather could not have been more cooperative. The Sox got off to a great start with Benintendi going yard on a three run blast, thrusting himself into Rookie of the Year contention from day one. Sandy Leon doing what we scream at all the guys to do when teams employ the dreaded shift; bunting for a base hit!  Rick Porcello looking like 2016 and not 2015 version of himself, leaving in the 7the with a 5-1 lead. The bullpen? Anyone nervous about our ability to make it through the 7th, 8th & 9th without incident, go to the head of the class. While Porcello was strong, Barnes was shaky.  5-1, quickly became 5-3 with more trouble knocking. Thankfully, we stopped the bleeding and got to the 9th where Craig Kimbrel, while not perfect, got the job done. Fastball, fastball, fastball…anyone seen my cutter? I love Kimbrell but he sends my blood pressure through the roof.

Throwing out the first pitch was TB12 who had to once again defend his jersey from pick pockets—this time, by the Gronk himself.  The sights and sounds of Fenway were front and center. We had another sellout to kick the season off in style. Italian sausages from Yawkey Way street vendors, Big Papi merchandize still selling like hotcakes, Sweet Caroline never sounding better. Boston pauses for day games on Opening Day and Patriots Day especially. This is what the boss calls an excused absence. Oh yeah, Chris Sale got the loudest round of applause from the Royal Rooters—Welcome to Boston!

It what will probably be a common theme this summer, the hits came from the top, middle and bottom of the order. We know this team can score runs. The real question is whether can they prevent them. Lets hope so, getting 6 full innings out of our starters will be pure fantasy. Get an early lead, hope our starter can go deep and then hang on for dear life. These Sox will not be for the faint of heart.

You can always count on the fans to be on their feet in the 9th inning and they weren’t disappointed…  Play the Dirty Water—Ship me back to Boston—its finally baseball season everyone. Enjoy!
