As a shift worker and father, sometimes life gets the better of you. I took a short break for the last month to compete in my first Strongman competition, and loved every minute of it.  However, I am glad to be back to focusing on my writing, as I love you guys and our team, the Boston Red Sox.

With that short break, I feel like I may be able to add some fresh perspective. When you watch, read, and study the team day in and day out, eventually your ideas start to overlap.  You hear opinions, you develop a mindset, and you lose sight of what the game could mean to you.  So with that in mind, I want to offer a few points after our series with the Texas Rangers, and before we face the Yankees on Tuesday.

First, and this is a simple one, I love the road blues.  The uniforms are fresh and offer some color in our rotation of uniforms. I wish we would wear them more.

Mookie should bat second or fourth. The kid is just killing it right now, leading the MLB in almost every batting category.  I keep hearing and reading that he should bat third, but I love the analytics of the lineup.  His production would be massively impactful in those positions, and its time to get him some RBIs.

Our fielding is an issue right now. Devers is a young stud.  He is expected to get better and better.  Nunez, however, is not young, nor is he a “stud” in the same sense.   One would imagine our lineup and win percentage will drastically improve with the return of Dustin Pedroia.  Also on this, I know we had some softening on our love for Dustin last year, but like I have said about the performance of Mookie so far, we need to cherish his time in the game. He is a Red Sox legend, and everyone should appreciate him while they can.  I know I personally will miss seeing him play.  Hindsight is always 20/20, and it is still hard not seeing Ortiz walk up to the plate.  Pedroia is one of those guys that will be missed.

I hate to say I told you so, but for the naysayers, J.D. was a great signing.  He provides a Ortizian presence in the lineup, and has proven that he’s worth the money.  The former Tiger is a complete student of the game, a great role model, and a powerful addition to the lineup.  Outstanding move by Dave Dombrowski.

Finally, we Red Sox fans are viewing one of the most thrilling teams we have had, and thats saying a LOT.  This year has been a ton of fun so far. With the Yankees embodying their “evil empire” monacher, you can be sure this season will continue to excite and impress.

So here’s to dissapointing a lot of fans in the Bronx the next couple of days, and for that matter, months.
